Mercito Gesta on being overlooked by champ Linares: 'Sa akin maganda yun.'
"I’m hungry for this title. Pag hindi niya sineryoso intong laban na ito at in-overlook niya ako, he'll pay the price. I'm the challenger. I'm hungrier." - Mercito Gesta (Photo courtesy of Mercito Gesta on Twitter)
There's a lot more at stake for Cebuano boxer Mercito 'No Mercy' Gesta's upcoming WBA title fight against Jorge Linares than just the lightweight world championship.
Saturday's showdown with Linares will be the culmination of a hard five-year road back to the top.
And while it means the world for the challenger, the champion seems to already have other things in mind, as he's already calling out pound-for-pound great Vasyl Lomachenko.
The Venezuelan world champion sent out a tweet that read "After M. Gesta, I Can See You @VasylLomachenko."
While most will consider this as a form of disrespect, Gesta says that he actually wants the champ to look past him.
"Sa akin maganda yun. That’s good that he’s overlooking me, hindi naman sya serious." Gesta told ABS-CBN's Steve Angeles.
"Alam naman niya na title fight ito. Ako, I’m hungry for this title. Pag hindi niya sineryoso intong laban na ito at in-overlook niya ako, he'll pay the price. I'm the challenger. I'm hungrier."
Gesta challenges Linares for the WBA lightweight world title on Saturday, January 27th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
