On Saturday, Argentina’s Juan Carlos Reveco gets a shot at becoming a world champion again when he battles for the IBF Flyweight world title at the Superfly 2 card in The Forum, Los Angeles.
The 34-year old Argentinian has held world titles in the junior flyweight and flyweight divisions, only losing it as recently as 2015, when he dropped the WBA Flyweight world title to Japan’s Kazuto Ioka.
Speaking through a translator, Reveco said that he’s put in the work for Saturday, and winning another world title means everything.
“He’s trained just for that, it’s very important for him. He lost in 2015 and he will regain it.”
It won’t be an easy task however, as Reveco is set to take on arguably one of the best in Filipino boxing history in three-division champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes.
The current reigning IBF 112-pound king, Nietes also has the distinction of being the longest-reigning Filipino world champion.
“Donnie is a great champion, but [Reveco] trusts himself, he’s trained a lot”
The Argentinian challenger isn’t too worried about Nietes’ standing as an eleven-year world champion, being a long-time champion himself before.
“[Reveco] is aware of that, however he’s also been a world champion for eight years, and it’s very important for him to recover the title.”
The two multi-time champions will clash on Saturday, and for the Pinoy fans, Reveco has a simple message.
“[You] have a very great champion, until Saturday.”
