Ancajas versus Sultan title bout set for April 14th in Vegas
Jerwin Ancajas defends his title against Jonas Sultan in a historic All-Filipino world title bout.
History is about to be made, as for the first time in nearly a hundred years, two Filipino boxers are set to battle for a world championship when reigning IBF Super Flyweight world champion Jerwin ‘Pretty Boy’ Ancajas puts his title on the line against challenger Jonas ‘Zorro’ Sultan.
Ancajas and Sultan are set to throw down on Top Rank Boxing’s April 14th card in Las Vegas, as confirmed by Top Rank’s Bob Arum, via Nick Gionco of Tempo.com.ph.
The 26-year old Ancajas, the first world champion coming from Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions ranks, will be making his fifth defense of the IBF 115-pound title. The Cavite-based native of Panabo, Davao has impressively dispatched all of his challengers so far, with the last three ending in TKOs.
An up-and-coming star out of the famed ALA Boxing stable in Cebu, Jonas Sultan has slowly climbed up the super flyweight ranks. After making a bit of a name for himself on ALA Boxing’s Pinoy Pride series, Sultan defeated former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro via knockout and then decisioned former two-division world champion John Riel Casimero in a title eliminator bout to earn a shot at Ancajas.
The Ancajas-Sultan title bout joins an already-stacked night of bouts at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, headlined by a WBO Welterweight world title bout between reigning champion Jeff Horn and former junior welterweight king Terence Crawford, as well as a WBO Super Bantamweight world championship match between reigning champion Jessie Magdaleno and interim champion Isaac Dogboe.
