"Mas malakas pa ako kay Frampton, mas mabilis pa ko, mas matangkad at saka ang-ano lang nila ay may edad na'ko kaya nilagay ako underdog,”
Going up against a younger Carl Frampton in his hometown of Belfast, it’s easy to write Nonito Donaire Jr. off as the underdog, as many others have done.
True, Donaire may be ahead in age, but ’The Filipino Flash’ is confident that youth is the only thing that Frampton has going for him.
"Mas malakas pa ako kay Frampton, mas mabilis pa ko, mas matangkad at saka ang-ano lang nila ay may edad na'ko kaya nilagay ako underdog,” Donaire said, via ABS-CBN News’ Danny Buenafe. “but its just a matter of working hard,"
At 35-years old, Donaire is four years Frampton’s senior.
The two battle for the WBO Interim Featherweight World Title at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Sunday morning, Manila time.
While winning will definitely open up another world of opportunities for the four-division world champion, it looks like he isn’t planning on hanging his gloves up any time soon, regardless of Sunday’s result.
“"I know I have a lot of years to come, unless of course my skills had been diminished then it's not safe for me, then you see me hang up the gloves,”
“But as of now I am capable of beating a lot of the guys, big, big chance of winning the fight Saturday," Donaire added.
A win gives Donaire another run as a world champion, and could possibly lead to him getting back to the top of the WBO featherweight division.
