IBF world title challenger Jonas Sultan arrive back home in the Philippines after his title fight against reigning champion Jerwin Ancajas in Fresno, California.
Just a few hours after reigning IBF Super Flyweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas landed back home in the Philippines, his most recent challenger, Jonas Sultan also made his way back to familiar shores after anhistoric weekend of boxing.
After landing in Manila, Sultan and his ALA Boxing team flew straight to their home-base of Cebu.
Saturday evening in Fresno, California, Ancajas and Sultan figured in the first all-Filipino boxing world title bout in nearly a century, with Ancajas prevailing for his fifth successful world title defense.
And while it was a dominant win for Ancajas, who improved to 30-1-1 in his professional career, it was also a valiant effort from the less-experienced Sultan, who fell to 14-4 in his career.
While it was just Sultan's first attempt at a world championship, he managed to do what every other challenger put in Ancajas' way failed to do, and that's take the champion to a 12-round decision.
The 26-year old Zamboanga native was positive even in defeat, saying that while he had some things to work on, he was ultimately proud to have been part of history.
Now, afte six months away from his family, Sultan finally gets to reunite with his loved ones before going back to work.
