Pacquiao wants to increase purse of undercard fighters
“Alam ko iyong feeling na maliit iyong kita, so magbibigay ako ng more,” said Pacquiao. “Di na bale na mas maliit sa akin, basta makabawi lang kami ng kaunti, [yun]ang mahalaga.” - Manny Pacquiao on increasing the purse of undercard fighters.

Aside from training to challenge reigning WBA (regular) Welterweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse, eight-division boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao is also getting ready for his first major event as a promoter.

The upcoming Fight of Champions card in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will be the first international event to be promoted by Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, in association with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

It’s no doubt that Manny knows what he’s doing inside the confines of the squared-circle, but the boxer-slash-senator says he’s also confident in the inner workings of putting together a boxing show.

“20 years na ako sa boxing, so alam ko na iyong mga pag-lalakad ng promotion,” Pacquiao told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo.

While Pacquiao the boxer takes care of business in the ring by himself, Pacquiao the promoter makes sure that the event will be properly put together.

“Mayroon kaming mga taong in charge sa lahat, hindi naman mahirap, basta sinusunod nila iyong mga instruction ko.” Pacquiao added.

And as a promoter, one of the things that Pacquiao wants to do is increase the purse for the fighters on the undercard of Fight of Champions, which features a handful of young, up-and-coming talents from all over the world, including Pinoys Jhack Tepora, Vincent Astrolabio, and Juan Miguel Elorde.

Having started from the bottom rung, Pacquiao says that he understands the plight of young boxers who don’t get the right amount of compensation.

“Alam ko iyong feeling na maliit iyong kita, so magbibigay ako ng more,” said Pacquiao. “Di na bale na mas maliit sa akin, basta makabawi lang kami ng kaunti, [yun]ang mahalaga.”

And once Manny the boxer finally decides to hang his gloves up once and for all, Manny the promoter already has big plans for young talents all over the world, much like he’s done with reigning IBF Super Flyweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas, the first world champion under the MP Promotions banner.

“Ang plano ay iba’t-ibang bansa para madevelop ang mga Pinoy boxers at ibang Asian boxers. Tuloy tuloy ito,” said Pacquiao.
