After getting stopped in the ninth round by Terence Crawford in their WBO Welterweight World Championship bout, former titleholder Jeff Horn wants a rematch in his home country of Australia.
Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, former junior featherweight ruler Crawford made his welterweight debut and dominated Horn en route to a ninth round TKO to capture the WBO title.
The win was Crawford's 33rd in as many fights and it made him a three division world champion.
For Horn, it was his first loss in 20 professional bouts.
After all the dust has settled, the Australian former champion wants another crack at 'Bud'. During the post-fight presser, Horn expressed his desire for a rematch, and given that he's a former champion, he believes he deserves one.
"I definitely think I can win a rematch if we have a rematch, and surely I should be allowed one, because I was the champion.” Horn said.
Horn's camp echoed the 30-year old Brisbane native's sentiments, saying that they would like to have a rematch Down Under.
"I would dearly, dearly love for Jeff Horn to fight Terence Crawford in Australia, and if we get that opportunity, I’m very confident we can turn the tables." said Glenn Rushton, Horn's trainer and manager, via BoxingScene.com's Keith Idec.
Horn's first nineteen bouts were held in Australia, where he amassed a 18-0-1 record, including a WBO title clinching win over Filipino eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and a title defense against Gary Corcoran.
Speaking of Horn's breakout fight against Pacquiao, promoter Dean Lonergan believes that if a Pacquiao-Horn bout proved to be successful in terms of crowd turnout in Australia, the same could be said for a possible Crawford-Horn rematch.
“Put it this way, if we can put on a Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn fight, we can put on a Terence Crawford-Jeff Horn fight down in Australia." said Lonergan.
“With the amount of branding we’ve built around Terence Crawford and Jeff Horn, I think it would be very easy to put a rematch together." he added.
According to the New Zealand-based promoter, Crawford is interested in fighting in front of an Aussie crowd, as long as the money was enticing enough.
