"I got all my corner stuff for Manny Pacquiao’s fight. But unfortunately I’m not be able to work in his corner coz someone took my spot."
Back in May, it was announced that Nonito Donaire Sr., father of five-time boxing world champion Nonito Donaire Jr. was added to the team of trainers tasked to prepare eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming fight against reigning WBA (Regular) Welterweight Champion Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Donaire Sr, the man credited for molding 'The Filipino Flash' into one of Philippine boxing's all-time greats, was tapped to become one of the assistant coaches, aiding head trainer Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.
His task was to help with the gameplan and the tactical preparation for the aggressive Argentinian Matthysse.
Well, it looks like Donaire Sr. won't be in Manny's corner come fight day.
With just hours to go before the big event in Kuala Lumpur, Donair Sr. took to Facebook to 'apologize to friends and family expecting to see him on TV' as it appears someone took his spot in Manny's corner.
"I got all my corner stuff for Manny Pacquiao’s fight. But unfortunately I’m not be able to work in his corner coz someone took my spot." Donaire Sr.'s post read.
The younger Donaire shared the post on his Facebook page as well, but not without a few comments of his own.
"Hopefully the corner runs smoothly even if they changed you out last minute. If the change was for Manny's benefit to help him win, I'm all for it. But if it was for PERSONAL gain, resentment and jealousy, y'all should be ashamed of yourselves." Donaire Jr. said.
Pretty intriguing stuff, especially since there's just hours left before the bout.
Was Nonito Donaire Sr. unceremoniously removed from Manny's corner? If so, who was put in his spot?
Hopefully we get some answers following the fight.
