The stage is set for another all-Filipino boxing world championship bout after Donnie Nietes and Aston Palicte both officially made weight for their SuperFly 3 encounter this Saturday (Sunday morning, Manila time) at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Nietes and Palicte will collide for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight World Championship.
During Friday night's official weigh-ins, both Nietes and Palicte came in at the 115-pound super flyweight limit, with Nietes tipping the scales at 114.8-pounds, while Palicte was at 114.6-pounds.
Nietes and Palicte, both hailing from Negros, will mark the second all-Filipino world championship bout this year, following in the footsteps of Jerwin Ancajas and Nietes' ALA Promotions teammate Jonas Sultan, who battled for the IBF Super Flyweight crown back in May. Ancajas sucessfully defended his title with a unanimous decision victory over Sultan.
In other Pinoy boxing action, US-based Cebuano Bruno Escalante came in at 114.2-pounds for his IBF Super Flyweight Intercontinental Championship matchup against Romanian Alexandru Marin, who was 0.2-pounds over the 115-pound limit.
Also, Filipino-Australian Louisa Hawton came in at 101.8-pounds for her WBC Interim Women's Atomweight World Championship bout against Mexico's Brenda Flores, who tipped the scales at 102.4-pounds.
Donnie Nietes battles Aston Palicte for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight World Championship at SuperFly 3 on Saturday, September 8th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
