An emotional KJ Cataraja celebrates his first boxing championship as a professional
Facing arguably the toughest test in his young career so far, ALA Boxing rising star Kevin Jake "KJ" Cataraja captured his first professional boxing title, defeating Mexican Hugo "Scarface" Reyes by unanimous decision, 99-91, 99-91, 100-90 to become the new WBO Youth Super Flyweight World Champion at Pinoy Pride 45, Saturday evening in Cebu.
Cataraja built an early lead in front of a hometown crowd as he punished the Mexican visitor with perfectly-timed jabs and pinpoint counters.
The former amateur standout had Reyes stunned on a number of occassions, but the Tijuana native remained game and continued to push forward.
Dealing with continuous pressure from Reyes, Cataraja remained composed and continued to outbox his Latino counterpart to maintain his lead on the scorecards.
Reyes wasn't going to go down without a fight however, as he continued to push forward and engage with Cataraja.
At the end of ten rounds, it was Cataraja who was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
The 23-year old improves to a flawless 9-0 in his professional career.
