Donnie Nietes gets another shot at the WBO Super Flyweight World Championship on New Year's Eve against Japan's Kazuto Ioka
Filipino boxing star Donnie "Ahas" Nietes gets another chance at a fourth world title in as many divisions, as he meets Japanese contender Kazuto Ioka for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight World Championship at the Wynn Palace Cotai in Macau, China to close out 2018.
The 36-year old Nietes (41-1-5, 23 KO), who has ruled over the minimumweight, light flyweight, and flyweight divisions, had the opportunity to join legends Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr. as the only Filipinos to capture world championships in four divisions back in September when he faced fellow Negrense Aston Palicte for the same world championship.
While many believed that Nietes had done enough to win the WBO's 115-pound division, the bout resulted in a highly-controversial split draw.
On December 31st, the Murcia, Negros native gets another shot at joining Filipino boxing's elite.
Standing opposite Nietes will be 29-year old Ioka (23-1, 13 KO), who himself is a three-division world champion as well.
The Osaka native is riding a nine-fight winning streak and hopes to also capture a world title in four weight classes.
