Filipino boxer Jhack Tepora has been stripped of his WBA Interim Championship after coming in well overweight for his title defense
Filipino boxer Jhack Tepora, who was supposed to be on the televised PPV undercard on Saturday's Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner WBA World Championship bout in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been replaced after coming in well overweight for his WBA Interim Featherweight World Championship defense against Mexican Hugo Ruiz.
The 23-year old Cebuano came in at 5.5-pounds over the 126-pound featherweight limit.
As a result, he was replaced by Mexican Alberto Guevara in a non-title bout.
Even more painful for the Pinoy was that he has been stripped of his WBA title.
Horrible news on the side of WBA Interim Featherweight Champ Jhack Tepora. He came in at 5.5 lbs overweight and has been stripped of the title and his fight in the undercard has been cancelled. Hugo Ruiz will now fight Alberto Guevara. #PacBroner @ABSCBNNews @abscbnsports— TJ Manotoc (@tjmanotoc) January 19, 2019
An unbeaten up-and-comer from the MP Promotions ranks, Tepora made an even bigger name for himself when he stopped Edivaldo Ortega in Kuala Lumpur back in July to capture his first ever world championship.
According to ABS-CBN's TJ Manotoc, Tepora was given two hours to drop the weight, but reportedly has not eaten for the last three days.
