Manny Pacquiao took care of business against Adrien Broner, defeating the four-division champion and successfully retaining the WBA (Regular) Welterweight World Championship after a 12-round unanimous decision win at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday night.
Now that that's out of the way, people are now looking forward to a possible big-money rematch between Pacquiao and undefeated former rival Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. later this year.
Midway through the Pacquiao-Broner affair, Mayweather Jr. was asked about a possible rematch with Pacquiao, and simply said that the Pinoy should first worry about Broner.
During the post-fight interview with Pacquiao, he had this to say about the pressing issue of a Mayweather Jr. rematch.
"Tell him to come back to the ring, and then we'll fight," Pacquiao told Jim Gray. "I'm willing to fight again Floyd Mayweather, if he's willing to come back in boxing."
Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. fought back in 2015, with the latter earning the unanimous decision after 12 rounds.
According to reports, if Pacquiao was successful against Broner, it would set up a rematch against Mayweather in mid-2019.
We've seen that only a mega-money bout could bring Mayweather out of retirement. The 41-year old five-division world champion has mainly been retired since 2015, but came back for a one-off super fight against MMA star Conor McGregor back in 2017.
Could a Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch bring in as much money as the Mayweather-McGregor bout? Not likely, but still, it's a big-money fight that a lot of boxing fans would like to see.
