Betting odds not a concern for Pacquiao against Thurman

Initial odds had eight-division world champion and reigning WBA (Regular) Welterweight World Champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao as the underdog in his upcoming challenge against reigning WBA (Super) Welterweight World Champion Keith "One Time" Thurman.

The two welterweight stars are set to clash for Thurman's title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, July 20th (Sunday, July 21st, Manila time).

While Pacquiao is very rarely the underdog in betting odds, it helps that in Thurman, he faces an opponent who is undefeated and is ten years his junior.

Still, Pacquiao's pedigree has emerged as a factor among bettors, given that in recent days, the betting lines have evened up a bit, as reported ABS-CBN's Steve Angeles.

A month ago, the American was favored at -135, while Pacquiao was the underdog at -105.

Since then, Thurman's odds have dropped to around -115, while others have Pacquiao as the favorite with the same odds.

Whatever the odds are outside the ring, the eight-division titleholder is only focused on what will happen inside the ring come fight night.

"I’m not thinking about the odds. I’m thinking about my condition and focused on my training. Make sure I’m 100 percent condition on the night of the fight," Pacquiao said.

Speaking of bets, someone who's willing to make wagers is the man standing opposite Pacquiao inside the ring.

Thurman recently said that he would bet $10,000 for every round until he knocks Pacquiao out, just the latest of the brash American's shots aimed at Pacquiao.

While Pacquiao isn't one to do some trash talking, he has repeatedly admitted to being motivated by Thurman's verbal jabs.

Someone who isn't afraid to engage Thurman in the war of words however, is Pacquiao's long-time trainer, Freddie Roach.

The legendary boxing mentor says he's also willing to make a wager as well.

"He wants to spend 10, I’ll bet 20," said Roach. "The thing is, our odds are going up and down and so forth. There is some action around the fight for sure but I just use betting to play around but I don’t gamble anymore."
