A familiar face will be in attendance during the Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend.
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, shared that undefeated boxing legend Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. will be ringside to witness the must-see welterweight title bout.
"Yes, Floyd will be at ringside to watch the fight," Ellerbe told ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo in an interview during the Pacquiao-Thurman arrival event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Pacquiao will be challenging Thurman for the WBA (Super) Welterweight World Championshp in a bout that Ellerbe doesn't see going the full 12-rounds.
"Fans can expect an explosive fight on Satuday night. You got both guys, I think will be coming into the fight looking for a knockout. I expect to see a knockout."
A longtime associate of "Money" Mayweather, Ellerbe knows a thing or two about promoting fights, and says that the undefeated Thurman has done a commendable job in promoting his first PPV bout, thanks in large part to the waves of trash talk that he has sent Pacquiao's way.
"It’s been a terrific promotion, Keith has done a phenomenal job, he’s talked it up, very good, this is his first Pay-Per-View fight, Manny has been in several Pay-Per-View fights, and again, Keith has done a phenomenal job in promoting this fight. He’s stated that he’s looking to knock Manny Pacquiao out in the first six rounds, so that’s going to make for a very, very exciting fight."
Ellerbe sees the welterweight clash as a battle between Thurman's youth and Pacquiao's experience.
"Manny is very experienced, he’s seen everything. He’s been in there with everything. Keith is a tremendous fighter. Keith’s best asset is youth, on his side. He does everything really good, Manny does everything very well also. Manny had more experience, it’s going to be a great fight."
"Manny has been doing this for quite some time, he’s the only eight-division world champion out there. This will be his 71st fight, he’s fought every different type of style there is, he’s seen everything, he’s heard all the talk before, and now it’s time to fight," he added.
Mayweather's presence at the Pacquiao-Thurman bout may or may not play a role in Pacquiao's future plans.
While fans have clamored for a rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather. For years, rumours have circulated that the two could meet in the cage once more, but it has yet to come to fruition.
Pacquiao and Mayweather fought back in 2015 in what was the year's biggest bout. Mayweather ended up winning via unanimous decision.
Since then, Mayweather has gone on to retire with a perfect 50-0 professional record, while Pacquiao has continued to compete at the highest level of the sport.
