In the lead-up to their highly-anticipated world championship bout Saturday evening, Keith Thurman unloaded all manner of trash talk on Manny Pacquiao.

While Thurman did pose a stern challenge to Pacquiao, he was ultimately unable to back his words up and failed to hold on to the WBA (Super) Welterweight World Championship, losing via split decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thurman was agressive early on, but got dropped late in the first round, which he says took him out of his game for the rest of the bout.

Throughout the rest of the bout however, the 30-year old American kept competitive and actually even landed more punches than Pacquiao.

Thurman also admitted that he was caught off guard by the 40-year old Pacquiao's speed and strength.

The brash American was gracious in defeat, even giving Pacquiao props on Twitter.

With his spotless record now history, Thurman will likely head back to the drawing board and work his way back up to the upper echelon of the division. He hopes to be able to earn a rematch against Pacquiao in the future.

"My conditioning, my output is just behind Manny Pacquiao. I would love a rematch. You gave blessing and lessons tonight, thank you Manny Pacquiao," Thurman said
