Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao was once again victorious on the big stage as he edged out erstwhile-undefeated American Keith "One Time" Thurman via split decision to capture the WBA (Super) Welterweight World Championship, Saturday evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao was the more dominant fighter over the course of the 12-round contest, setting the tone with an early knockdown in the first round before landing a solid body shot in the tenth round that visibily had Thurman hurt and backing up.
While Pacquiao landed the more effective punches, according to the stats, it was Thurman who was more active in terms of punches thrown.
Thurman, 30, landed 210 punches out of 571 thrown, compared to Pacquiao's 195 out of 686. It was the most against Pacquiao since Antonio Margarito's 229 punches back in 2010.
Thurman was also more accurate with a 37% clip, which was the most against Pacquiao in more than a decade.
In terms of power punches, Thurman landed 192 out of 443 for an impressive 43.2%. Pacquiao, meanwhile, landed 113 out of 340 for 33.2%
Pacquiao, for his part, was also more active compared to his past few outings, with his 195 out of 686 punches landed to thrown being the most he's ever recorded since his 2013 bout against Brandon Rios wherein he threw 790 punches and landed 281.
