The Azkals rose to 129th in the latest FIFA rankings
The Philippine men's football squad moved up in latest world football rankings released by FIFA on Thursday.
Despite only a 5-0 win over Papua New Guinea earlier this month, the Azkals rose five places to 129th in the October rankings. It is only two places short of the country's best ever ranking in history.
The Filipino booters remained as the top squad in Southeast Asia, ahead of Vietnam (136), Myanmar (137), Laos (154), Malaysia (156) and Indonesia (157).
The Azkals are also the 17th ranked Asian team out of 46 countries.
Coach Thomas Dooley's squad will play against Nepal in a friendly in Doha, Qatar on October 31 followed by a friendly against Thailand on November 10.
The national squad will plunge into action in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup starting November 22 against Laos in Hanoi, Vietnam.
