Azkals fans are expected to fill up the stands of the Rizal Memorial Stadium to support the home team against Thailand in the semifinals of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup.
The Philippine Azkals will get the much needed boost from their 12th man come game time against Thailand on Saturday in the first of two legs of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Though ticket sales were not yet available Wednesday, Philippine Football Federation general-secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes said that he received good news that supporters will flock the venue to raise the morale of the national squad in their tough task ahead.
“I heard that the sales are going OK,” said Gastanes, who believed that fans will fill the nearly 13,000-seat capacity stadium.
TicketWorld started selling game passes Tuesday night but Gastanes said that the actual number of tickets sold will only be known by Thursday.
“Normally evening ang report ng TicketWorld sa kanilang ticket sales right after office hours, mga around 8:00 p.m.,” he said.
Gastanes added that they have lowered ticket prices to make it more affordable for the fans. Tickets are sold for as low as P100 up to P2000.
“More fans can avail of the tickets kasi we tried to lower down the prices compared from the last time,” according Gastanes. “Yung ibang ticket price naibaba ng more than half so that it will be more affordable for the fans.”
Fan support is important for the Azkals as they face an opponent that Filipino booters have not yet beaten in 14 faceoffs that span for more than four decades.
Team manager Dan Palami turned to social media to seek support from Azkals fans posting on his Twitter account: “We badly need our 12th man on Dec 16! Football fans, let’s rally behind the BIG flag, with drums and chants, cheering the AZKALS on!”
The Philippines has never advanced past the semifinal round since 2010.
In their last meeting on November 9, Thailand blanked the Azkals, 3-0.
ABS-CBN Sports+Action will air the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal match starting at 7:30 p.m. as well as the second leg in Thailand on December 10, Wednesday also at 7:30 pm.
