FEU, La Salle settles for a draw
The marquee match between defending champion Far Eastern U Tamaraws and La Salle Green Archers ended in a 1-1 draw.
Games on Thursday: (FEU-Diliman) 1:00 p.m. - UST vs. ADMU 3:00 p.m. - NU vs. UP La Salle Green Archers silenced the goal streaking Eric Giganto and battled the defending champion Far Eastern U Tamaraws to a 1-1 draw Sunday in the marquee match of the top two teams in the 77th UAAP men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field inside Ateneo campus. Nate Alquiros scored the equalizer for La Salle, slotting in a 31st minute penalty kick to cancel out FEUís opening goal in the 26th minute by Nicolas Ferrer. The Green Archers got their second stalemate of the season following their opening day draw against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons. La Salle got its only victory in three matches Thursday at the FEU-Diliman pitch after shooting down Adamson. FEU remains on top of the standings with seven points while La Salle trails two points back. Giganto led the Tams in their first two victories scoring a total of four goals including a hat-trick against the University of Sto. Tomas Tigers in the season-opener. The Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, barged in the win column with a 2-0 shellacking of the Tigers. UP is stuck in a three-way logjam for four points with the Ateneo Blue Eagles and National U Bulldogs. The Blue Eagles and Bulldogs settled for a 2-2 draw in their match. Season-host University of the East Red Warriors got goals from Ariel Mallen, John Mayor and Khyndale Manzo to hack the Falcons, 3-1, and get their first three points. UST and Adamson remain winless.
