The Thailand War Elephants are on track for to win their fourth AFF as they head into hostile territory at the Bukit Jalil Stadium to face off against home team Malaysia in the second leg of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup Finals.
Thailand is going into the game with a 2-0 lead on aggregate following a 2-0 win at home last December 17.
The first leg saw Thailand and Malaysia go into the halftime break both scoreless, but the War Elephants broke away in the second period of play thanks to a 72nd minute penalty by Charyl Chappuis, who scored his third goal in the tournament.
Kroekit Thaweekarn put the game away in the 86th minute, putting Thailand up 2-0 and recording his third tournament goal as well.
All is not written yet for Thailand however, as the Harimau Malaya have at least 90 minutes to equalize or clinch the titles for themselves with hopes of repeating their 2010 AFF campaign. Malaysia will be looking to hoist their second AFF championship in three finals appearances.
Mohd Safiq Rahim, the tournament’s co-leading goal scorer, will have his hands full as he tries to lead his squad back against their heavily favored Group B rivals.
The 2nd leg of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup can be seen LIVE this Saturday, December 20, 8pm on ABS-CBN Sports+Action.
