Far Eastern University will be looking to move up in the standings when they take on 2nd-seeded Ateneo
Defending champions Far Eastern University will be looking to grab hold of second place this coming Wednesday, January 14, as they take on Ateneo De Manila who are in turn looking to take over the top spot in the UAAP 77 Men’s Football standings.
The Tamaraws will be coming into Wednesday’s match-up with a ton of momentum following their 9-1 destruction of Adamson University last Sunday. Current league-leading scorer Eric Giganto turned in an excellent offensive performance against the Falcons, finding the back of the net four times. Reigning MVP Paolo Bugas, Jesus Melliza, and Nicolas Ferrer also chipped in to help the green-and-gold shirts bounce back from their mid-December loss to National University.
The Tams currently sit at third place with three wins, one loss and one draw for ten points.
The Katipunan-based booters on the other hand will be looking to surpass University of the Philippines who currently sits at the top spot with 13 points, and a win on Wednesday will do just that.
The Eagles are coming off a physical draw against collegiate rivals De La Salle University that saw both squads go scoreless after 90-plus minutes of action. Returning midfielder Carlo Liay has been on point this season, leading Ateneo in scoring.
Ateneo currently holds second place with three wins and two draws for 11 points.
Also seeing action this Wednesday will be National University as they take on De La Salle.
The Bulldogs find themselves at fourth place following their 3-1 win over University of Santo Tomas. Paolo Salenga continues to lead the Bulldogs this season, already recording four tournament goals in five games played. He scored a brace to help National U defeat defending champions FEU back in December.
A win on Wednesday will definitely propel National U up in the standings as they currently sit in fourth place with three wins, one loss, and one draw for ten points.
The Taft-based squad will also be looking to break into the league’s top four with a win over NU. Gelo Diamante has proved to be De La Salle’s main offensive threat this season, already knocking in three goals, two of which coming from their dominant 5-1 win over UE back in December.
De La Salle is currently just outside of the top-four with two wins and three draws for nine points.
