Arnel Amita put on an offensive clinic, scoring a hat-trick to help Far Eastern University dismantle Ateneo ,4-0 ,last Thursday afternoon at the FEU-Diliman Football Field
The Tamaraws looked every bit like the defending champions they are, as they controlled the pace in the first half, keeping the Blue Eagles on the defensive for the greater part of the first 45 minutes of action. After 38 minutes, FEU finally got on the scoreboard thanks to an Amita penalty conversion.
In the second half, FEU piled on to their lead, starting off with Eric Giganto capitalizing on an Ateneo miscommunication to kick in arguably the easiest goal he's gotten all season in the 57th mark.
Amita finished off the Eagles with two more goals, firing one in from outside the penalty box in the 67th minute, and then completing his hat-trick in the 83rd minute from a Jhan Jhan Melliza assist.
After the match, ABS-CBN Sports spoke with Amita, who credited his teammates for his incredible offensive display. "Hindi ko naman maiiscore yun kung wala akong mga kasama. Yun yung tinatawag na team play. Andyan naman yung mga kasama ko para sa akin, parang nagtutulungan lang kami." Amita said.
The win skyrockets the Tamaraws to 24 points and ties them with University of the Philippines for first place. Ateneo remains with 22 points and drops to fourth place, behind DLSU's 23 points.
With only a handful of games left in the elimination round, the race for the Final Four tightens with five teams currently in contention. (UP 24 pts, FEU 24 pts, DLSU 23 pts, Ateneo 22 pts, NU 20 pts)
