Ceres Falls to Maziya, Won’t Qualify for AFC Cup

Unfortunately Ceres, they won’t be joining Global FC in the 2015 AFC Cup this month, as they came up short against Maziya, 1-0 last Tuesday at the National Football Stadium in Male, Maldives.

In a tightly contested match that saw both teams go scoreless for over 80 minutes, it was an 82nd minute goal from Samdhooh Mohamed that lifted the reigning Maldives FA Cup champions past the UFL Division 2 champions, closing the door on the Filipino club’s hopes to represent the country in the AFC Cup.

As a result, Maziya qualifies for the AFC Cup and joins Group E, while Ceres heads back home, leaving Global FC as the lone Pinoy squad in the tournament.

Global, who qualified for the tournament by claiming the 2014 UFL Division 1 championship, will kick their AFC Cup campaign this coming February 25, when they take on Hong Kong-based South China FC in the group stages. The match takes place at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
