Global FC:

This Wednesday, Global FC will be heading into the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium to make history. The UFL Division 1 champions will be making history as they become the first ever Filipino club to compete in the group stage of the AFC Cup, and their first hurdle will be Hong Kong’s South China AA.

Aside from being regarded as the country’s best football club, Global FC also calls themselves “the People’s Club”, and ABS-CBN Sports spoke to Head Coach Leigh Manson to find out why this prestigious club has claimed the monicker.

“I thnk it’s because of our relationship with Tacloban and with the people. I think it’s important that we don’t forget that this is about the people, this is about giving you, no matter what your background, a chance to follow a dream, whether you’re a player, whether you’re a fan, you have a chance to change your life. That, for me is why we regard ourselves as the people’s club. We go out and we do a lot of work in the communities and we take time to interact with our fans and we don’t forget them. “

In a separate interview, also with ABS-CBN Sports, Manson explained more about the monicker, saying that the club believes that football is a great avenue for helping society.

“It’s important that we interact with the Filipino fans, it’s so important to us. We’re just hoping that they come out to support us regardless of their club team, because this is also about the country.”

When Global FC takes to the pitch on Wednesday night, they’ll have with them the support of not only their fans, but also the Filipino people. Expect the members of “The People’s Club” to leave it all out on the field as they represent country.
