Underprivileged but talented kids will now have a chance to realize their dream of playing football and get proper education as well through the sport as Globe launch the third year of the TM Football Para sa Bayan.
Five provinces and two areas within the metro will benefit from the grassroots program to be spearheaded by former Azkals captain Chieffy Caligdong.
“Bilang football player pangarap kong makatulong din sa mga bata na makapag-aral sa pamamagitan ng paglalaro. Dahil sa TM Football Para sa Bayan may mga bata nang nakapag-aral sa De La Salle-Zobel dahil sa scholarship,” said Caligdong, who also serves as Globe Ambassador.
Caligdong is joined by TM portfolio and brand management director Trina Sebastian and Bong Esguerra, director of corporate social responsibility of the Globe Telecom, during the press launch Wednesday at the Hungry Hound Pub in Bonifacio Global City.
The platform will consist of clinics, festivals, and mentoring sessions which will serve as venues for skills development as well as rapport-buildong with brangays and local government units.
The campaign this year will be covering cities in Dumaguete, Iloilo, Davao as well as the provinces of Palawan and Capiz. The program will also be conducted in Tondo and Payatas.
Esguerra said that they expect to “quadruple” the number of youth participants from the 5,600 children from last year.
The program will kick off its initial phase with a Football Festival, a 7-side tournament in Barotac Nuevo in Iloilo on March 7 and 8.
Caligdong said that 200 teams have registered in the two-day kickoff and expect 30 to 50 more squads to join in the coming days.
For this year, DLS-Z has allotted three slots for talented players to join the team.
“Yung mga bata na mapipili ng mga scouts, mula high school hanggang college full scholarship sila dahil sa paglalaro ng football,” Caligdong said.
