Yadanarbon turns back Global FC

MANDALAY – Global FC will have to try another day for their first AFC Cup win as they fell to home team Yadanarbon last Wednesday at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium.

Following a morale-boosting draw against powerhouse Pahang FA, the boys from the Philippines were looking to carry their momentum and pull out a win against the then-winless Yadanarbon, but the lack of manpower proved to be too much for “The People’s Club.”

Yadanarbon controlled the pace of the match for most of the 90 minutes, but it wasn’t until early in the first half that the home squad managed to alter the scoreboards, thanks to a 52nd minute goal from Djedje Djawa.

Yadanarbon failed to connect on a number of chances to pad their advantage and left the door open for Global to capitalize, but the Filipino squad was ultimately unable to find the equalizer.

Just before the end of regulation though, Yadanarbon made good on one more scoring opportunity, thanks to a last minute goal from Win Htay Kyaw.

At Full Time, the home team managed to notch their first AFC Cup win after dropping their first two group stage matches.

“We stuck to our game plan to work on the counter-attack but Djawa was always a danger and in the first ten minutes of the second half he found space in the midfield. We maybe lost our discipline and this will be a good lesson for the next game.” Global FC coach Dan Padernal told AFC.com.

As it stands, South China remains at the top of Group G with nine points, followed by Pahang FA with four points and Yadanarbon with three points. Global drops to last place in the group with one point.

Global FC heads back to the Philippines as they will try to exact a measure of revenge on Yadanarbon this coming April 15.

Telecast of last Wednesday's Yadanarbon vs Global FC match can be seen this Friday, March 20, 7am on ABS-CBN Sports + Action 23!
