MANAMA, BAHRAIN – Following a week-long training camp in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the Philippine Men’s National Football team will be engaging in an International Friendly Match against the Bahrain National Football Team on Monday, March 30, 2015.
This will be the first time that the Azkals will be taking part in international competition following their run in the AFF Suzuki Cup in late 2014 and will give the Pinoy booters a chance to get themselves loose and ready for the upcoming months as they begin their road to the World Cup qualifiers.
It will also give the squad members, new and old, to get to know each other and play together as a team while head coach Thomas Dooley and the coaching stall will have an opportunity to implement a new style of play that features adjustments on offensive and defensive formations.
While there are new faces on board, the Azkals will be without the services of long-time National Team member Chris Greatwich, who announced earlier this month.
that he will be taking a break from international duty.
Currently ranked at 104th in the world, Bahrain’s “Al-Ahmar” will be looking to bounce back from the 6-0 drubbing they received at the hands of Colombia last March 26, while the Philippine Azkals, currently ranked at 128th in the world, will be looking to kick off their 2015 campaign on a high-note.
The Azkals and the Al-Ahmar first met back in October 12, 2012 in a friendly match that also took place in Manama with neither squad managing a goal.
The Friendly match will take place at the Bahrain National Stadium in Manama
Kick-off time will be at 6:30 pm, 11:30 pm Philippine time.
