Real, Atletico battle to a goalless draw; Juventus edges Monaco

The first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals kicked off last Tuesday, April 14 (April 15, Manila time), with last year’s finalists Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid figuring in a scoreless draw at the Estadio Vicente Calderon in Madrid, Spain.
Real had slight edge in ball control for the match, and saw more scoring attempts but were ultimately unable to manage a conversion.
Atletico keeper Jan Olbak played a big role in keeping their visiting rivals scoreless, as he had a hand in preventing Real from converting on their 16 shot attempts.

Real will have home-field advantage in the second leg of the quarterfinals as they head to the Estado Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday, April 22 (April 23, Manila time).
Juventus beats Monaco, 1-0
Over at the Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy, the home team drew first blood against Monaco, one-nil.
After a scoreless first half, midfielder Arturo Vidal gave Juventus a 1-0 advantage after converting on a 57th minute penalty following a foul on Monaco’s Ricardo Carvalho.

Monaco looked for the equalizer but was unable to connect, giving Vidal and Juve the head start in their quarterfinals series.
The second leg heads to Monaco’s home turf, the Stade Louis II in Monaco also next Wednesday, April 22. (April 23, Manila time.)
