Porto beats Bayern Munich
In the other quarterfinal match of the day, FC Porto treated their hometown fans at the Estadio do Dragao to a show as they defeated Bayern Munich, 3-1.
While it was Bayern who had majority of the ball possession, it was the home team whose shots were falling, which began with a third minute penalty from Ricardo Quaresma to give Porto an early advantage.
Just seven minutes later, Quaresma recorded a brace of his own after converting another goal to give the Portuguese squad an early 2-0 cushion.
Bayern’s Thiago Alcantara made things interesting in the 28th minute after getting one to go and trimming the deficit to a single goal going into halftime.
20 minutes into the second half, Porto captain Jackson Martinez knocked in his club’s third goal to make their advantage a little more difficult to overcome for the visitors.
Bayern could not produce another conversion in the second half, giving Porto a 3-1 victory at Full Time.
Bayern will look to exact revenge as they head home to the Futbol Arena Munchen in Munich for the second leg of this quarterfinal matchup also on Tuesday, April 21. (April 22, Manila time)
