Bahadoran and the rest of Global FC have one more chance to break into the next round of the AFC Cup
Global FC suffered their third loss in the Group Stages of the AFC Cup as South China AA downed the Philippine-based squad, 3-0 last Wednesday at the Mongkok Stadium in Hong Kong.
Substitute Cheng Lai Hin drew first blood for South China in the 39th minute to give the home squad a manageable 1-0 lead going into the midgame break.
With 45 minutes left and only a slim one point margin to overcome, Global had a huge chance to keep their momentum going, but South China’s Bojan Malisic connected on a header in the 54th mark to make it two-zip for the Group G leaders.
Daniel McBreen iced the match for South China with a conversion two minutes into injury time for a 3-0 final tally.
Global FC coach Dan Padernal praised South China's efforts following the match in an interview with AFC.com:
“Both teams struggled in the first half, we made some bad passing decisions, but the first team to recover was South China and the standout performance was from their central defenders, they were remarkable tonight,”
South China remains perfect in the AFC Cup Group Stages with five wins in five matches for 15 points.
Global remains at third with four points after five matches played, but “The People’s Club” still has a chance to advance into the next round with a win over Malaysia’s Pahang FA in their final group stage match on May 13 at the Philippine Sports Stadium.
“Now it’s very difficult for us to advance so we must win against Pahang, but we will work hard and hopefully we can make it into the next round.” Padernal added.
