The Myanmar Women’s used a dominant second-half showing to stun the Philippine Malditas, 4-1 in a Group B matchup at the 2015 AFF Women’s Championships last Monday, May 4.
It looked as if the Malditas were on their way to picking up a second straight win after Fil-Canadian striker Joana Houplin scored on a penalty in the 21st minute to send the Pinays into the mid-game break with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half however, Myanmar’s Naw Ar Lo Wer Phaw went to work, scoring an equalizer in the 50th minute.
Wer Phaw was far from done though, as she gave Myanmar the advantage just three minutes later. Khin Moe Wai added to the Myanmar lead in the 66th minute off a Wer Phaw assist. The final blow came from Wer Phaw once again, in the 74th mark to complete the second-half hat trick and ultimately put the match out of reach for the Malditas.
With the loss, the Malditas temporarily drop down to third place, with three points, while Myanmar jumps ahead into second place, also with three points and a +2 advantage in goal difference. At the bottom of Group B remains Malaysia with no points after two matches.
The Philippines closes out the group stages against Group B leader Vietnam on Wednesday, May 6th. A win over Vietnam and a Myanmar loss against Malaysia will ensure that the Malditas advance into the next round.
