A 58th minute penalty for Argenitinian Carlos Tevez was enough to break the tie and give Juventus the win in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Semifinals matchup against defending champions Real Madrid last Tuesday, May 5 (May 6, Manila time) at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
Spanish forward Alvaro Morata altered the scoreboards early for Juventus as he connected on an eighth minute follow-up from a deflection by Real keeper Iker Casillas to give the home club a 1-0 advantage.
Less than 20 minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to find the equalizer, heading the ball into the back of the net off a James Rodriguez assist in the 27th minute to level the game at 1-1 by the halftime break.
Early in the second half, a Real foul warranted a penalty for Juventus, and Tevez made the most of the opportunity, sinking the penalty in the 58th mark for a 2-1 advantage.
The holders tried desperately to look for another equalizing conversion, but were unable to find one, and the home squad came away with the win in the first leg.
The scene shifts to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid for the second leg of the Champions League semifinals this coming Wednesday, May 13 (May 14, Manila time)
