Misagh Bahadoran (9) and the rest of Global FC are looking to propel the Philippines into the next round

“It’s do-or-die for us.” Global FC team captain Misagh Bahadoran told the media during Tuesday afternoon’s AFC Cup pre-match press conference.

When Global FC steps onto the pitch against Malaysia’s Pahang FA this Wednesday at the Philippine Sports Stadium, it will be their last Group Stage match in the 2015 AFC Cup.

As historic as their campaign already is, a win for “The People’s Club” on Wednesday evening will even be more historic, as it will mark the first time that a Filipino club will be making it into the AFC Cup’s knockout stage.

Pahang FA remains as the only club that has not scored a win against Global in Group G, as their last meeting in Malaysia last March figured in a scoreless draw.

And while this may seem to work in Global FC’s favor with the match being played at home, the former UFL champions are still dealing with some ailing members.

“We’re suffering a little bit of injuries. Amani [Aguinaldo] has a little bit of an injury, so we’ll see today if he can play tomorrow.” Bahadoran told ABS-CBN Sports.

Global FC coach Leigh Manson confirmed this, but he said that it shouldn’t be an excuse.

“We have one or two players who are not a hundred percent. Amani is coming back from a slight injury, but he’s looking good in training. We’re pretty close to full strength, no excuses. We’ll go out to win, a draw for us is not good enough.”

For Bahadoran, it’s about defending home-field and making the country proud. He says that advancing into the next round is definitely going to be a big moment for Filipino football.

“This is gonna be history, this is gonna be like something new in the Philippines. It’s never happened in the Philippines, this kind of thing, especially for myself. That’s gonna be one of the biggest achievements in my football life. I’m sure if we win, football will develop and grow fast again in the Philippines.”

Currently, Global FC sits at third in the Group G standings with four points, just behind Pahang FA, who sits at second with seven points. Unbeaten South China AA leads the group with 15 points, while Yadanarbon has been eliminated from competition.

Global FC vs. Pahang FA will be shown this coming Wednesday, May 13 LIVE at 6:45pm on ABS-CBN Sports + Action channel 23.
