The Catalans continue their magical year as they cemented themselves as this year’s top Spanish club after defeating Atletico Bilbao, 3-1, to capture the 2015 Copa del Rey title, Saturday at the Camp Nou in Barcelona.
Barca’s main man, Lionel Messi opened the scoring for the Champions League finalists, blasting through Atletico’s defensive line and shooting one straight to the back of the net from the right side amidst three Atletico defenders 20 minutes into the match.
16 minutes later, it was Brazilian striker Neymar’s turn to score, as he capped off an impressive display of passing ball control with a conversion to put Barcelona up 2-0, with the assist coming from Luis Suarez.
In the 74th minute, Dani Alves found a cutting Messi for a third Barca goal from just outside the goal box to complete the Argentinian’s brace and put the game out of reach for Atletico Bilbao.
Inaki Williams prevented the shutout for Atletico, pulling one back in the 79th minute, but that was all that the visitors could muster.
Barcelona will be carrying the momentum of their 26th Copa del Rey win as they prepare for the UEFA Champions League this coming June 6. (June 7, Manila time)
