Just a mere days after being elected to his fifth term as FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has decided to relinquish his seat amidst the corruption scandal that’s currently surrounding the world’s football governing body.

Aside from that, Blatter also appears to be under investigation in the United States, as reported by BBC.com.

Just last Friday, Blatter was elected to another four year term as FIFA president, following the withdrawal of opponent, Jordan’s Prince Ali bin al-Hussein. Blatter has long been under fire for corruption allegations, but has always seemed to weather these accusations. This time however, the 79 year old Swiss native decided to step down.

“"My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody." Blatter said. He added that he felt that it was the “best option for football.”

The former FIFA head has called an emergency FIFA congress as soon as possible to elect a successor, expected to take place between December of 2015 and March of 2016.

Among the possible candidates for the organization’s head seat is al-Hussein, as well as France’s David Ginola.
