Cam High FC Juan Sanz, champion in the 13-14 age group of the Football for a Better Life tournament in Naga, with Football Council of Nagaís (FCN) Ferdinand Tuy, Green Archers Unitedís Arvin Soliman, former Azkals team captain and football icon Chieffy Caligdong, British football development consultant Chris Thomas, FCN's Richmond Canlas, Cam High FC Juan Sanz coach Anton Ribano, and Pru Life UKís Elmer Centeno.

FC Juan Sanz emerged as the top winner in the recently concluded Pru Life UK-backed Football for a Better Life tournament held at the Metro Naga Sports Complex in Pacol, Naga City. The Naga-based team took home the first place honors in the 13-14 and 15-16 age groups and the runner-up finish in the Ladies Open division.

Meanwhile, Calabanga FC, Tigaon FC and Siena Tigaon were the champions in the Ladies’ Open, 9-10 and 11-12 groups, respectively.

Pru Life UK Football for a Better Life in Naga is the sixth leg of the eight-month long nationwide grassroots development football program spearheaded by former Azkals team captain Chieffy Caligdong and program director and British football development consultant Chris Thomas. Caligdong and Thomas collaborated with the Football Council of Naga, as well as the Rotary Club of Naga and the local government, to conduct the tournament and clinics. Caligdong’s team mate at Green Archers United Arvin Soliman and Little Azkals and Kaya FC youth player Shanino Clemente helped Caligdong and Thomas conduct the clinics.  The event attracted 51 teams from the Bicol region. These teams came from different private and public schools, football clubs and barangays.

Richmond “Bogs” Canlas, President of the Football Council of Naga said that the event provided participants with fun and learning. He said, “Football for a Better Life gave our young footballers in Bicol a chance to not only get up close and personal with their idols Chieffy Caligdong and Chris Thomas but also play football with them through the clinics. We are thankful that Coach Chieffy and Coach Chris reminded the kids that their development as atheletes and as individuals certainly go hand in hand.”

The next stop of Football for a Better Life will be on August 15-16 in Laguna. On August 15, there will be a football clinic in Calauan, at the National Housing Authority (NHA)/ABS-CBN Bahay ni Juan resettlement area wherein the Buklod Kalinga of Franciscan Sisters of Mary will also conduct a feeding program. On August 16, there will be a full tournament for six age groups at the Sta. Cruz Laguna Sports Center. These activities will be led by Caligdong, Thomas, Simone Rota of the Azkals and Stallion FC, and other players from the Azkals and Stallion FC.
