During a friendly between club teams Barcelona and AS Roma, Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi got into it with a defender, which resulted in some head-butting and choke attempts.
A little over 33 minutes into the first half, Barca already had a 1-0 advantage thanks to a 26th minute conversion from Neymar, and Messi looked to add to the lead, but got fouled on the way to the goal by AS Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
Messi didn’t like what happened and went in to confront Mbiwa, who was already jawing at the Barca striker. When Mbiwa went to meet heads with Messi, the smaller Argentinian didn’t back down, and even went for the French-African’s neck in what we believe was a choke slam attempt.
Check out the video below. Angle of the altercation starts 27 seconds in.
Okay, so maybe it wasn’t really a choke slam that he was going for, but he went for the neck, so let’s call it a choke attempt.
The altercation only served to fuel Messi as just eight minutes later, he would make it 2-0 for Barcelona, en route to a 3-0 Barcelona win.
