Misagh Bahadoran and the Philippine Azkals get to play as a team once more, before facing Uzbekistan in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Before the Philippine Azkals resume their FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign against Uzbekistan on September 8, the Pinoy squad will be taking on the Maldives in an international friendly match on Thursday, September 3, as announced by the Philippine Football Federation on their official website.
The Azkals have not competed as a team since their June 16 win over Yemen, and while they have surely used the time to put in the work to prepare for Uzbekistan, the Azkals will also need to get the rust off and their meeting against The Red Snappers of Maldives will serve as a tune-up match.

The Azkals and the Red Snappers have only met once in a FIFA sanctioned match, in the semifinals of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup. The Philippine squad came out on top with a 3-2 win in extra time, thanks to conversions from Phil Younghusband, Gerry Lucena, and the game winner coming from Chris Greatwich.
The Maldives are also currently trying to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but things aren't going as smoothly for them, as they are 0-2 in Group C, with losses to Qatar and Hong Kong. They take on China PR at home, the same day as the Azkals meet Uzbekistan in Bulacan.
The Azkals vs. Maldives international friendly will be held at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila. Kick-off time is at 8:00 pm. Ticket information will be announced on Monday, August 17.
