FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Late substitute Adrian Ramos secured Borussia Dortmund's 3-1 victory over Hertha Berlin on Sunday that preserved his team's lead in the Bundesliga.

Ramos came on in the 79th minute and scored three minutes into injury time to make sure Dortmund stayed ahead of defending champion Bayern Munich. Both Dortmund and Bayern have won their opening three matches but Dortmund has scored one more goal.

Borussia Moenchengladbach's miserable start to the season worsened when it lost 2-1 at Werder Bremen in the late match for its third defeat in as many matches.

In Dortmund, defender Mats Hummels scored with a header in the 27th, connecting with a cross from Shinji Kagawa, who also played a role in Dortmund's second goal. Kagawa picked out Matthias Ginter, who fed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for an easy tap-in.

Salomon Kalou, another late substitute, pulled one back for Hertha in the 78th, scoring seven minutes after coming on.

Kagawa missed an empty net in the second half.

In Bremen, U.S. striker Aron Johannsson converted a penalty in the 39th for his first goal for Bremen. Marvin Schulz tripped Anthony Ujah and Johannsson stepped up to calmly slot home from the spot.

Lars Standl equalized for Moenchengladbach shortly before halftime, but Jannik Vestergaard rose at the near post to head in a corner for Bremen's victory in the 53rd.

Moenchengladbach's Granit Xhaka was sent off late in the match for a foul in the box and his second booking, but Felix Kroos shot wide from the penalty spot.

Stuttgart and Moenchengladbach are the only teams without any points after three matches. Moenchengladbach finished third last season and qualified for the Champions League.
