(AP Photo/Amel Emric)ZENICA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) — Edin Dzeko equalized in the 85th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw for Bosnia-Herzegovina against Ireland in the first leg of their playoff for next year's European Championship.
Robbie Brady had given Ireland the lead just three minutes earlier at a fog-swept Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica despite the hosts dominating for most of the game.
But Dzeko met a low cross from the right to slot a shot into the middle of the net to leave the sides level going into the return leg in Dublin on Monday.
Ireland had to soak up pressure for most of the first half and took the lead when Brady ran on to Edin Cocalic's attempted clearance and cut inside central defender Toni Sunjic before blasting a shot into the bottom corner.
The fog grew thicker in the second half and blanketed the pitch, making visibility difficult for both spectators and players.
Bosnia goalkeeper Asmir Begovic said he couldn't even see beyond the halfway line toward the end.
"It was a difficult night, Ireland are a tough team to break down, they are organized and we couldn't quite get the ball down and play it the way we wanted to so it was difficult," Begovic said. "Both teams made it difficult for each other so it's all to play for in the second leg.
