PARIS (AP) — Already eliminated from European competition, Lyon's form worsened as it was beaten 4-2 at home by Montpellier in the French league on Friday.

Lyon lost 2-1 at home to Belgian side Gent on Tuesday to finish bottom of its Champions' League group and failing to even qualify for the Europa League.

This defeat leaves second-place Lyon 13 points behind Paris Saint-Germain, which hosts last-place Troyes on Saturday.

"It's the worst match of my career, and I'm not talking just about Lyon," Lyon coach Hubert Fournier said. "We were poor in every department."

Poor defending again typified Lyon's performance — with Brazilian right back Rafael's back-pass intercepted by Chad forward Casimir Ninga early in the second half for his second goal of the night.

Montpellier led early through Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons' own goal, only for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to level shortly after.

Veteran striker Souleymane Camara made it 4-1 to Montpellier before Lyon midfielder Rachid Ghezzal replied with an 84th-minute free kick.

"We just weren't in it from the beginning until the end, and we really need to buck our ideas up," Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes said. "I have a feeling of shame; we've sullied the image of the club."
