Who says that Americans aren’t passionate football fans?
Members of the Portland Timbers found out that American football fans can be as…let’s say “rowdy” as their European counterparts.
Early into the MLS Cup Final between the Timbers and the home team Columbus Crew, things got testy as the Columbus crowd began throwing beer at the Timbers players.
Well, being down 2-0 will get fans riled up.
After being on the wrong end of the fastest goal in MLS Cup history courtesy of Portland’s Diego Valeri, Columbus found them in a 2-0 hole after just seven minutes of action, thanks to a header from Rodney Wallace.
Naturally, Wallace had to go and celebrate that second conversion.
That’s when the beer started flying.
Portland went on to win the MLS Cup title, beating Columbus 2-1.
