MANILA - The San Beda Red Booters extended their season, Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium by beating the Arellano Chiefs, 2-1 in extra time, handing them their first loss of the NCAA Season 91 football tournament.
A win was all that the Cheifs needed to hoist the Season 91 crown, but regulation wasn't enough to decide a winner, calling for an extra 30 minutes.
Nimrod Balatbat gave the Red Booters the lead only two minutes into extra time, but a penalty conversion from Patrick Bernarte knotted things up at one goal apiece.
Midway through the second half of the extra frame, Aljo Zabala scored a free kick to ultimately give San Beda the 2-1 victory.
The Red Booters and the Chiefs go at it one more time, with everything on the line on Tuesday, January 19, 11:00 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
In the earier matchup, College of Saint Benilde dominated Lyceum, 4-0.
