Adrian Gallardo (9) came up with a game-saving equalizer in the last minute to help Ceres-La Salle hold Singapore's Tampines Rovers to a 1-1 draw
Adrian Gallardo came up big once again as he netted his fourth goal of the 2016 AFC Cup tournament to help Ceres-La Salle survive and hold group leaders Tampines Rovers of Singapore to a 1-1 draw, Tuesday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
After a scoreless first 45 the pressure was put on the Bacolod-based booters after Muhammad Hafiz gave the Singaporean champions a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute.
With time winding down, it looked like the reigning UFL champions were on their way to dropping their first match in the tournament, when Gallardo found the equalizer with just two minutes remaining in regulation and help the Pinoy side hold the home team to a 1-1 draw.
Gallardo has been nothing short of amazing for Ceres-La Salle in the AFC Cup. He has provided two game-saving last-minute equalizers so far, the other being against Selangor in Bacolod. In their win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, it was Gallardo who scored a brace to secure the win.
With the draw, Ceres-La Salle sits at solo second place in Group E with five points in three matches, behind group leaders Tampines Rovers who have two wins and a draw for seven points.
Selangor is right behind Ceres-La Salle with four points after getting a win, a draw, and a loss, while Sheikh Jamal has yet to score a point in the tournament.
With the first leg of the Group Stage in the books for Ceres-La Salle, they’ll be playing two of their three remaining games at home in Bacolod, starting with a rematch against Tampines Rovers on April 12.
They head to Malaysia to face Selangor FA on the 26th of April, before closing out the Group Stage back in Panaad Park and Stadium, Bacolod to host Sheikh Jamal.
