Bacolod-based Ceres-La Salle has a chance to take over the top spot in Group E of the 2016 AFC Cup standings when they take on Singapore's Tampines Rovers
Bacolod-based football club Ceres-La Salle returns to their home pitch, as they host group leaders Tampines Rovers of Singapore in an AFC Cup 2016 Group Stage encounter, Tuesday evening at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Ceres-La Salle has managed to remain unbeaten so far in the Group Stage. In their first three games, the Pinoy side has recorded a win and a couple of draws, good for five points and the second seed in Group E.
Things will be quite different for the Ceres-La Salle as they begin the second leg of the Group Stage though, as a host of injuries have plagued the reigning UFL champions. Fan-favorite Stephan Schrock, Kevin Ingreso, and Manny Ott are all nursing injuries, while a handful of other players not at a hundred percent.
Still, Ceres will have the support of their 12th men, as the hometown crowd will no doubt help motivate “The Busmen.”
Coming over to test the Pinoys are group leaders Tampines Rovers, who have notched two wins and a draw in their first three matches and are two points ahead of Ceres in the Group E standings.
In their first meeting, the Tampines Rovers had the home pitch advantage, but it didn’t do them much good as Ceres-La Salle managed to hold them to another clutch equalizer from leading scorer Adrian Gallardo.
The next three games will be cruicial for the Pinoy side, as they will need to hold on to the second spot, or claim the top seed to be able to advance into the knockout stage. A win over Tampines tonight will put Ceres ahead in the standings.
