NEW HEIGHTS. The Philippine Azkals moved up to 115th in the FIFA World Rankings for May of 2016, the highest that they've ever been.
The Philippine Men's National Football team reached a new high this month, as they moved up to 115th in the FIFA World Football Rankings, the highhest spot that the country has ever reached.
This comes after reports surfaced that head coach Thomas Dooley agreed to a two year contract extension to stay on as the Azkals' mentor.
The previous highest ranking for the Azkals was at 116th, just a month ago, after the Pinoy side ended their World Cup Qualifiers Group Stage campaign with a dramatic comeback win over Asian powerhouse North Korea at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The win put the Azkals at third in their group, securing a spot in the Third Round of the AFC Cup Qualifiers, which begins in 2017.
At 115th in the world, the Philippines remains as the top football nation in Southeast Asia, while they rank at 16th in Asia, with Iran, Australia, Korea Republic, Japan, and Saudi Arabia making up the Asian top five.
As for the rest of the world, Argentina remains as the top football power, while Belgium, Chile, Colombia, and Germany make up the rest of the top five in the World.
