OJ Porteria and the rest of KAYA FC try to score an upset over defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim of Malaysia
Pinoy club KAYA FC will have their hands full as they take on defending AFC Cup Champions Johor Darul Ta’zim in the 2016 AFC Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
KAYA FC booked their spot in the 2016 AFC Cup after claiming the 2015 UFL League title, and while they opened their campaign with a loss in Hong Kong, the Pinoys would no doubt bounce back.
KAYA strung together three straight wins, propelling them to the top of Group F, before closing out the Group Stage with a loss and a draw in their last two outings, good enough for a second place finish.
The runner-up finish in Group F was enough to send the UFL League champs to the Round of 16, joining Ceres-La Salle as the first two Pinoy squads to make it into the AFC Cup Knockout Stages.
Waiting for them at the other side of the pitch will be defending champions Johor Darul, who simply blasted through their Group Stage campaign, picking up six wins in six matches, including an 8-1 drubbing of Myanmar’s Ayeyawady United.
