"I think this year, we played very good." - Bienvenido Maranon
Bienvenido Maranon played quite the important role during Ceres-La Salle’s 2016 AFC Cup run.
The Spanish winger had a conversion of his own, while mostly playing facilitator, especially to fellow countryman and star striker Adrian Gallardo.
Unfortunately for Bienve and the rest of the Busmen, their run ended Tuesday evening, at the hands of the visiting South China AA in Bacolod.
The disappointed Spaniard simply summed their fate up in a single sentence.
“We played very good today, but one mistake and you’re out of the competition.” Bienve told the media post-match.
Indeed, one mistake was enough. It was late goal in extra time that did Ceres-La Salle in. It was one mistake, the only glaring mistake, but it was enough to send the 2015 UFL champs home.
Still, Maranon isn’t too down on his team, but now says that their focus must shift to the domestic league.
“I think my team is very good, and we need to concentrate now on the UFL, so that we can join this competition again.”
Just recently, Global FC claimed the UFL Cup, granting them at least a playoff to the 2017 AFC Cup. With the UFL league already underway, Ceres-La Salle has a chance to defend their title and make their way back into the AFC Cup as well.
