Pinoy football clubs Global, Ceres-La Salle advance in 2016 Singapore Cup

Daisuke Sato and Stephan Schrock both scored for their respective clubs in the 2016 Singapore Cup
Filipino football clubs Global FC and Ceres-La Salle FC picked up international wins over the weekend, advancing into the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup Quarterfinals.
Singapore Cup returnees and current UFL Cup Champions Global FC demolished Cambodian club Nagaworld, 5-0, in the Preliminary round, Saturday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Japanese midfielder Hikaru Minegeshi scored a brace within the first ten minutes of the match, while OJ Clarino added a 33rd minute conversion of his own to make it a comofortable 3-0 lead at the break. The People’s Club would continue to pile on in the second half, with Omid Nazari and Daisuke Sato adding goals of their own.
The dominant win sets up a double-leg quarterfinals series with former S League champions Tampines Rovers.
The following day, 2015 UFL Champions Ceres-La Salle, who were coming off a historic run in the 2016 AFC Cup, also managed to get past their opponents, Singapore’s own Young Lions, also at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Ceres-La Salle and national team standout Stephan Schrock scored late in the first half, while Joshua Pereira responded for the home team, scoring a late equalizer to send the match in to added extra time.
The Pinoy side dominated the extension, with South Korean defender Kim Sang-min hitting in the 99th minute, and Schroecky completing a brace in the 100th minute for the 3-1 victory.
Ceres will next take on 2015 semifinalists Brunei DPMM in a double-leg quarterfinals matchup.
The dates of the quarterfinals have not been determined yet.
